Financial description
Oltre Venture operates according to the venture capital model, we invest in the risk (equity) capital of the enterprises, this is the most powerful means to support the innovation and the start-up of enterprises. Oltre Venture’s model is a combination of financial resources, skills, proactive approach and entrepreneurship.
The portfolio is focused on 4 main investments, representing the 72 % of the total portfolio. The portfolio allocation is strongly overbalanced due to the small amount of resources available that did not allow an equal distribution. So far Oltre Venture has consciously chosen a deep experimental approach. Some of the smallest investments, mostly in the health sector, are to be seen as steps of Oltre Venture’s learning path. In 2012 we will implement our first exit strategies, selling small investments to controlling partners of the company. It can be estimated that the value of portfolio (in spite of discounting experimental choices and initial mistakes) is at the same level as the initial capital of investors.

Impact thesis
Many social needs are in a grey area, in the gap between the private and public market and to be solved they require skills and models coming from both sides. Our initiatives aim at experimenting with new supply models able to combine good quality and affordable prices, particularly in those sectors where public availability is not sufficient or is absent. Our proposals are to be seen as an effort to develop examples that could positively affect the public supply of services and to allow the saving of public resources that can be addressed to the solution of worst social problems.
Besides the social objectives, the economical sustainability is the most important requirement that must be fulfilled by the projects we invest in. Oltre Venture invests in enterprises which fulfill the necessities of the community pursuing a balanced, sustainable and not only financial development. We do not provide grants, but investments and for this reason the economic sustainability ensures the success of the investments on the long term, thus the possibility that the projects positively impact the community for a longer time.
