The fund aims to obtain financial and social returns on investment. Our target beneficiaries are individuals or households previously excluded from the service/product and generally belonging to low income, mostly rural but also urban settings. For each investment, Bamboo Finance examines the socio economic characteristics of the population segment served including income level and basic needs satisfaction.
The expected positive outcomes depend on the investment. In general terms we expect:
1. The company’s product or service improves the quality and appropriateness of basic services (housing, healthcare, education, energy, livelihood opportunities, water, sanitation and the like) for low income communities. It reduces indirect or direct costs of the target population (including time saved)
2. Usage of the product/service results in improvements in welfare and or, efficiencies that translate into increased income The company’s offering improves access, affordability, appropriateness of essential products or services.
3. The company directly or indirectly generates employment in a region or among a population with limited employment opportunities. New direct employment opportunities or value chain integration for suppliers.
