Mountain Cleantech Fund II (MCF II) is the first sub-fund under the umbrella fund structure Mountain Fund SICAV-SIF. Investment decisions are taken by the Mountain Management Sàrl (GP) whereas the operational activities are executed by Mountain Cleantech (Fund Advisor).
Mountain Cleantech invests in high growth, late stage, innovative technology companies in sectors such as energy efficiency, recycling/waste processing, green IT, advanced materials, water and waste water. Geographic focus spans the German-speaking region as well as Europe and Scandinavia. World-renowned for engineering education and policy regimes, this region is a leader in exportation of technology serving growing industries and populations. An investor survey conducted by NewNet Research in the spring of 2010 revealed that Germany and Switzerland consistently ranked as the #1, 2, and 3 leader in 'green' investments.
Comprehensive data echoes strong expected growth prospects for cleantech companies in Europe. In Germany alone, Private Equity Wire 24 Jan 2011 cites: "Analysis shows that venture capital investments in German portfolio companies with investments dated between 1998 and 2010 generated an average gross return of 11.4%. In the same time period, US companies achieved an average gross return of 7.7%."
MCF II is the second fund of Mountain Cleantech. In the successful first fund - also dedicated to cleantech - the company managed to accomplish 3 full exits and 4 partial exits.
