IGNIA is an impact investing venture capital firm based in Monterrey, Mexico, focused on investing in and developing commercial and socially inclusive enterprises serving the base of the socioeconomic pyramid (lower income segment). By providing effective responses to the enormously underserved needs of low income populations, both as consumers as well as active participants in productive value chains, IGNIA seeks to empower entrepreneurship and generate social impact while creating attractive financial returns for its investors.

Sectors of highest priority include those with a disproportionate impact on improving the welfare of the poor such as healthcare, nutrition, housing, basic utilities and education. Impact Performance

Impact thesis

IGNIA is deeply familiar with the needs of the Base of the Pyramid (BoP) from the principals’ experience in microfinance. Enormous opportunity now exists to apply this knowledge to BoP sectors outside microfinance including healthcare, housing, basic utilities and education. In doing so, IGNIA seeks to invest in business solutions to poverty, transform the lives of the poor and produce superior financial returns.
To track its social and environmental impact, IGNIA measures various indicators that are industry and company specific, and tracks them through time. These indicators include: number of jobs created, number of clients served, savings accrued to clients, increase in asset generation accruing to producers, realization of health benefits, and general environmental sustainability indicators. To complement these efforts, IGNIA is proud to be adopting IRIS and to be a GIIRS Pioneer Fund.
