South Africa

Edit this fund

The Fund supports sustained solutions to some of South Africa’s challenges by making strong investments with measurable social benefits. We have created a socially responsible investment product that combines investment return imperatives with sustainable development – environmental, social and corporate. The fund promotes sound social and infrastructure provision through listed and unlisted fixed income opportunities.

Our approach to managing unlisted, high social impact investments is unique. Cadiz Asset Management has broken new ground in a joint venture with GreaterCapital, part of the GreaterGood group, a not-for-profit social enterprise with considerable experience, networks and a nuanced understanding of how to create cross-sector high impact social investment opportunities. The partnership draws on the considerable financial acumen and responsible investment leadership of the CAM Group and GreaterCapital’s established track record of successful research, social project identification, analysis and impact assessment.

We target viable social projects in both urban and rural regions, which are high priority development areas.

Impact thesis

Cadiz African Harvest Asset Management and GreaterCapital believe that a holistic strategy that comprises engaging grass roots community structures, local industry, the non-profit sector and funds allocated for Corporate Social Investment and Socially Responsible Investment is the most effective model for creating sustainable socio-economic development. Our own experience in engaging such strategies in South Africa is evidence of this.
GreaterCapital undertakes ongoing research around the development needs of specific communities all over Southern Africa as well as research on good practice implementation models within the various development sectors. Working with implementing agencies identified in those communities we develop solid project proposals with related project budgets ensuring that all necessary items are included for the successful implementation of the project:
• Securing income for vulnerable families
• Using the powerful micro-financing model for small business initiatives
• Providing basic services such as water and sanitation
• Providing access to education and health care
• Securing land and housing to provide security
