The Business Partners Kenya SME Fund is a US$ 14.1 million investment fund for SMEs in Kenya, together with a parallel US$ 2.5 million Technical Assistance Facility. The objective is to deliver finance and technical assistance to Kenyan SMEs in a commercially sustainable manner and generating an acceptable return to investors in the Fund



Financial description

The Fund invests in the equity,quasi-equity and debt instruments of SMEs.
All portfolio companies must have the majority of either their assets or their revenues derived from Kenya.
The Fund does not invest in enterprises engaged in (i) arms manufacturing or other military related activities (ii) manufacture of tobacco products or hard spirits, or (iii) operation of casinos or other gambling facilities or any other activities deemed to be a Prohibited Activity.

The Fund provides specialist risk finance to formal small and medium enterprises (SMEs). The Fund actively supports entrepreneurial growth by providing financing, specialist sectoral knowledge and added-value services for viable small and medium businesses. The Fund utilsies a Technical Assistance facility, in the form of a grant, for use in support of the investments made in portfolio companies.
Business Partners International’s unique model is used to address some of the key obstacles facing entrepreneurs in Africa, namely; poor access to investment financing in order to establish or develop a self-sustaining business, little or no collateral or security, lack of access to proven due diligence methodologies, lack of post-investment technical assistance, lack of business support for long-term success and sustainability.
