Description
Habitat for Humanity International Inc. (“HFHI”) is the parent entity of the Habitat network of organizations, which is operated pursuant to a “federated” organizational model. There are approximately 1,500 Habitat “affiliates” in the U.S., located throughout the 50 states.2 Affiliates are locally run, grassroots, nonprofit affordable housing organizations which mobilize physical, financial and social capital at the local level to achieve Habitat’s mission. Each affiliate is separately incorporated and selects its own board of directors and staff.
HFHI protects the Habitat “brand” and also leverages significant resources to strengthen the capacity of its U.S. affiliates. HFHI offers affiliates multiple layers of support and specialized services. Habitat affiliates can access technical expertise, capacity building and organizational development assistance, as well as training and funding opportunities. FlexCAP is one example of the type of support that HFHI provides to its U.S. affiliates.
