CEI Ventures is a wholly-owned, for-profit subsidiary of Coastal Enterprises, Inc. (“CEI”), which was founded in 1977 as a private, 501(c)(3) nonprofit Community Development Corporation and is certified by the U.S. Treasury Department as a Community Development Financial Institution. Headquartered in Wiscasset, Maine, CEI’s mission is to create economically and environmentally healthy communities in which all people, especially those with low to moderate income, can reach their full potential. CEI made its first equity investment in 1980, ultimately developing the concept of socially responsible venture capital investing, and organized CEI Ventures as a separate subsidiary to further this important goal. CEI is also an investor in the Prior Funds, funding its investments from various sources, including returns from successful prior equity investments.
