These two competitive advantages are unique and the reason that large scale impact will be possible in the highly underinvested and non-competitive markets of the Rift Valley region. This ability to scale investments, especially those targeting the bottom of the pyramid, is how all consumers will benefit from higher quality and lower priced products and services delivered by Ascent’s portfolio companies.
This strategy can only be effectively implemented through the unique approach of being permanently on the ground with offices and permanent staff in Addis Ababa (Ethiopia), Kampala (Uganda) and Nairobi (Kenya).
Ascent invests in fast growing SMEs primarily in Ethiopia, Uganda and Kenya. Ascent is sector agnostic but does not invest in infrastructure, real estate or primary agriculture.
The fund’s investors include DFI’s, family offices and Kenyan institutional investors.
