Grnfund, L.P. makes investments in growth stage companies that offer natural and organic food and beverages, as well as other products that provide green or sustainable options for consumers primarily in North America.
The fund is focused on the $290 billion green consumer market. Todd Woloson and David Haynes have been making impact investments together as Managing Directors at Greenmont Capital Partners II for the past eight years, and will serve as Managing Directors for grnfund. This will allow grnfund to capitalize on previous success by leveraging the partners’ network of industry veterans who provide proprietary access to deal flow and a deep understanding of the entrepreneurial process.
The strategy begins by leveraging this network and reputation to generate a substantial flow of off-market deals. Investments will be made in approximately 12 scalable, high-growth companies that have demonstrated success, have talented management teams, and annual revenue between $5 million and $30 million. The Investment Team evaluates and selects investments through a disciplined and thorough due diligence process; adds substantial value to investments through active board level guidance; and then exits these investments after 3-7 years, targeting gross IRRs of at least 30%. The Investment Team expects grnfund will be a preferred source of impact capital for entrepreneurs in the green consumer market.

Impact thesis
As with GCP II, the Investment Team intends to follow the “green consumer” as she adopts a healthier lifestyle. This journey typically begins by experimenting with natural and organic food and beverages. As she begins to research the nutritional benefits of healthier eating habits, she begins to consume cleaner food, feeling the positive effects in her body and throughout her life. The migratory path then leads her to natural products, as she begins to examine the labels of potentially hazardous materials that she may use inside her home or on her body. This adoption of a “greener” lifestyle is an information-based trend, which is powerful and difficult to reverse.
The Fund intends to invest in companies that service this trend whose pace of growth is driven by a consumer demand for better and more sustainable products. The Investment Team believes this growth is supported in part by an increased demand for transparency by consumers. According to the “2014 Cone Communications Food Issues Trend Tracker,” 93% of Americans now consider health and nutrition and 77% consider sustainability when deciding what products and services to purchase. The Investment Team believes that transparency is leverage in the green consumer market, and that this demand for transparency will continue to grow.
