Fund geography
Unitus Impact ("UI") is a venture capital firm that invests in scalable businesses that increase income levels and create livelihood opportunities for the working poor in Asia's fastest growing economies. Over the past 10+ years, UI has been working and investing in Asia to accelerate market-based solutions to poverty and generate risk-commensurate financial returns for its investors.
Although we are not restricted by industry, UI invests equity into companies focused on supply chain optimization, building agribusiness verticals, and providing small-business financing and micro-franchise opportunities. Each UI portfolio company aims to build significant enterprise value by establishing distribution and supply chain platforms that can scale to reach millions of low-income families and significantly increase their incomes.
After successfully proving out the livelihoods thesis through our now closed syndicate series structure, Unitus Impact Partners launched the Livelihood Impact Fund Fund in Q3 2012. We are raising a $35 - $50 million fund to invest in 15-20 innovative businesses through equity and convertible debt structures. The first close was in June 2013.

Impact thesis
Unitus Impact invests into innovative companies that create livelihood opportunities and large-scale income improvements for the working poor. These companies optimize inefficient supply chains, provide access to markets, and create significant value at the base of the pyramid.
We quantify social and livelihood impact on low-income populations by monitoring multiple IRIS social metrics across our entire portfolio: the directly resulting income increase and the number of livelihoods/jobs created. These metrics provide value for our investors and as well as the entrepreneurs we work with. Our measurement process is twofold. First, portfolio companies perform intake assessments and determine each participant's base income level. Second, we conduct ongoing tracking and reporting which provides insight into how each company is improving livelihoods over time. As appropriate, we may choose to monitor industry specific IRIS metrics on an individual company basis.
